Join the Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research and the Albany County Public Library for a Silent Book Club! It’s pretty simple–show up on Zoom with whatever book you want, and then for one hour, we read. For the first few minutes, we share on screen or via chat whatever book we brought. Then all the microphones go off, and we read together. At the end of the hour, if people wish, they can read aloud to the group a few interesting sentences from their books. Remembering, Honoring, Retrieving: An inquiry into heartbreak, grief, and death in America
Remembering, Honoring, Retrieving: An inquiry into heartbreak, grief, and death in America
February 14, 2021 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Albany County Public Library and The Higher Plains Death Collective present a Valentine's Day Reading & Listening Event: This series of articles, poems, essay's, and podcasts was curated with the intention of bringing your heart peace through words, recognition of loss, and the call to action. When taking in the content of this series look for the intersectionality of race, gender, and class. Make notes on what you found to be significant or moving. It's helpful to go in order, as each entry builds upon the last. If you don't make it through the whole list, that's perfectly okay. We will share our thoughts during a zoom meeting on Valentine's Day. To engage with the reading and visual materials please visit: bookclubs.acplwy.org For more information email: higherplainsdc@gmail.com Zoom Link: https://zoom.us/j/98637926213

National Institute of Health: All of Us Research Program
National Institute of Health: All of Us Research Program
February 16, 2021 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Too often, health care is one size fits all. Treatments meant for the “average” patient may not work well for individual people. Health care providers may find it difficult to coordinate care among specialists or to access all of a patient’s health information. Researchers may spend lots of time and resources creating new databases for every study. All of Us is working to improve health care through research. Unlike research studies that focus on one disease or group of people, All of Us is building a diverse database that can inform thousands of studies on a variety of health conditions. This creates more opportunities to: - Know the risk factors for certain diseases
- Figure out which treatments work best for people of different backgrounds
- Connect people with the right clinical studies for their needs
- Learn how technologies can help us take steps to be healthier
Benefits of Taking PartWe’re all human, but we’re not all the same. Often our differences—like age, ethnicity, lifestyle habits, or where we live—can reveal important insights about our health. By participating in the All of Us Research Program, you may learn more about your health than ever before, including information about your DNA. Some examples include ancestry, traits, and certain health-related DNA results that you could share with your health care provider.
