The infrastructure project is thanks to generous grant funding from the Wyoming Library Multi-Purpose Community Facility Program. The Wyoming Library Multi-Purpose Community Facility Program (WLMCF) is funded by a grant to the State of Wyoming through the U.S. Department of the Treasury Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund (CPF).

Construction Update: Week of January 12-16

That’s right, we’re ordering the new furniture for the three spaces. This is one of our final steps before the rooms will be open!

Follow Along with Construction: Past Weeks

  • Photos of Activity Center construction. Text reads: Construction Corner: The team has been putting in a lot of work on the Activity Center roof this week. The Meeting Room roof is up next. We’re excited for the plumbing for new roof drains! You can also see the start of the sloped wall at the front entrance.

Looking Up: Construction in the Conference Room is currently focused on the ceiling. The main part of construction in this space is expanding the room. To do so, the construction crew is examining the ceiling and support system for when the cinder block/brick wall is removed.

This week, the crew painstakingly removed the original quarry tile from the concrete slab by the remaining set of front doors. With all the necessary concrete removed from the Activity Center and front entrance, ARCON can start pouring fresh concrete slabs in the spaces.

The construction crew has also removed the old tile that was the old lobby floor. Plumbing for the new single-user bathroom has been installed. A portion of the exterior brick has been removed. This will be the new public entrance to the Meeting Room.

You can also see the start of removing the brick wall to construct the new public entrance to the ACPL meeting room.

  • Photos of wall going up in meeting room. Text in graphic notes: ACPL’s old, moveable wall between the Meeting Room and staff offices was removed and replaced with a permanent wall. This will help with sound issues in the meeting room and provide a better working environment for staff.

The Meeting Room will be used for storage/staging while the crew works on other areas. Three photos depict the meeting room in its current state from various angles. There are lights hanging from the ceiling. There are ladders and pallets throughout. There are metal beams along the walls framing new walls. There is an uncarpeted floor that looks like it may be concrete with carpet glue.

More exterior work. Starting Soon - As part of the construction project, ACPL is able to renovate the public restrooms. This will be an exciting update! It does require that the public restrooms close for an extended period. During that time, ACPL will have three restroom stalls available near the temporary entrance. These have running water, flushable toilets, and A/C.

This will improve the floor plan of the men’s restroom and allow for better privacy for bathroom users. Don't forget that our public restrooms are closed for the remodel. Temporary restrooms are available on the south side of the building.

The cement block wall between the Conference Room and the lobby area was removed this week. The wall was removed to nearly double the size of the room in order to accommodate larger groups. The beams are currently in place to support the ceiling until a support beam is added.

This week, the construction team installed the support beam where the south wall used to stand. The beam made it possible for the room to nearly double in size to accommodate larger groups. They also closed off the existing windows and door on the north side of the room. The new entrance to the room will be located off the lobby on the south side of the room. This will make the room available for public rental outside of regular open hours at ACPL. Lastly, the walls have been framed. This is the start of sound proofing the room to allow for better privacy.

The original water fountain from 1981 has been removed from the hallway near the public restrooms. A new fountain, and water bottle filler, will be installed in the lobby. Lobby updates. More of the wall framing has gone up in the main entrance. The PURPLE rectangle shows the footprint of the new single-user bathroom that will be added to the lobby area. The BLUE rectangle shows the spot of the new HVAC/storage closet. This will support the heating and cooling needs in the Activity Center.

These large windows are tinted from the outside to allow for greater privacy for children and families and to allow the room to stay cooler in the summer.

In each restroom, one sink is slightly lower to better serve patrons with disabilities and children (shown to the left). The wall file is up in the men’s restroom. If you haven’t heard, the men’s and women’s restrooms are back OPEN, and don’t they look snazzy (top left)! We’re still working on finishes and installing diaper changing stations, but the new look and more modern feel is an amazing upgrade. Work continues on the single-user bathroom that will be in the foyer area. The tile work was part of this week’s agenda (top right).

We decided to move the door from the old doorway position (left) to just around the corner at the new doorway position (right).
